Time to be Thankful

I am thankful for a lot of things in my day, my thoughts are often buzzing around how beautiful a flower is or how wonderful my girls are or how fantastic it is that we have so much birdlife around us, or how tranquil it is to see the hot air balloons float over the city in the early morn.
I was thinking tonight, as I was admiring no1 on my list, that perhaps sharing the wonder and gratitude and getting it out there, instead of just in my head, might make the world a better place. In fact I think we should all do it.

CAn you list 5 things you are truly thankful for today?

Here's mine:
1. the sound of silence this very moment
2. a big warm doona
3. watching my girls be sisters
4. drinking a HOT cup of tea
5. family afternoon tea on the deck.
6. sounds of laughing and gleeful squealing and small running feet in tandem.

ok so that's six but I will stop there. What can I say? It was a good day.

It's Oh so quiet...

Shhhh, ShhhhIt's, oh, so quiet shh,shh
It's, oh, so still shh,shh
You're all alone shh, shh
And so peaceful until...

...until you freak out because it is Oh So Quiet and it's not even 6pm in the evening so you jump on your new wireless toy to talk to someone, anyone, to fill the big silent space in the house.
Something very oddly going on in my world.
It's a week night, I'm all alone. Not getting dinner (ok, so that's not so unusual), not yelling (ok so that's very unusual), not patching up base-jump-off-the-furniture wounds whilst stirring a pot of ?knows what on the stove while trying not to step on the dog or the baby and answering the phone to marketeers all at the same time. Is this what sanity is like? I'd almost forgotten.

The baby is in bed asleep (not so odd) but the other hyperactive monkey is not here (very very odd). She's off having a slumber party with Grandma as a very rare special treat. One that she loves enormously. So big kisses to them. Hopefully they'll have so much fun they'll want to do it again tomorrow night. I'll be prepared to take on this big silent house then.

Meanwhile Mark and I looking at each other not knowing what to do. Well, we will once he gets home from picking up the takeaway. The art of conversation is a distant memory in our family culture. Somewhat like the art of the samurai, or the art of water divining, or the art of starting a fire with two sticks. While the children are awake they demand our attention every second, and when they are finally asleep we are too brain snoring tired to speak. We're such riveting people aren't we?

Anyway, I might go off and bang a few pots together or something while I'm waiting for Mark.

Guess where I am?

I'm upstairs in my dining room, looking over my kitchen benches.
But i'm accessing and updating my blog at the same time. However my PC is sitting downstairs all cold and dark by itself.
How can this be?????

yes for the more innovative and computer savy people this is quite an easy question and all a bit ho-hum I suspect.
But as for everyone else (and I know there are a quite few of you) no, I'm not wearing Ruby shoes and turned into the WW of the W. I've gone WIRELESS and now have a laptop!
Yes, i can now wander about my house surfin' the 'net, giggling at you tube and skyping anyone who is available at anytime from anywhere I want. Well, within my home anyway it doesn't have range quite enough to reach some warm exotic jungle somewhere so my plans for total escape are still impaired a little.
I was lying in bed last night watching some of the latest movie trailers on my itouch. So cool. So very very cool! You just have to love technology some of the time. Even though it's caused my life to move faster than a speeding bullet, you still have to love it some times. Like now, sitting here tapping away at a new laptop. Talking into space while the littlest munchkin is ferrating away in my ensuite doing who knows what....ooops....actually better go and check on that.
And here i am back already. *insert smiley*. Having just saved a small infant from swimming in the toilet I'm back surfin' within a few seconds (although may not have been in time to save small infant from drinking the toilet water....jury still out on that...fair quantity of suspicious water on the floor around toilet though...lucky said toilet was well cleaned today). Aaaah bliss...now i can check my emails without having to sneak downstairs (unsuccessfully usually) and listen to a very loud chorus of screaming (see below post re banshee) whilst i do so.

Anyway, i better stop procrastinating. The purpose of this wireless effort was so I could do actual work on here whilst caring for the kids as well. New age multi tasking. So better get on with it before my children start suspecting that I might actually love this glowing black box more than them.

Random notes from the House of Lurgy.

1. It's raining again, a nice soft drizzle.

2. A second story is being added to the house being built across the road. I hope it stops there. We shall miss our views of the trees and birds and the full sky lightning displays if they go any higher.

3. Girls are funny strong cute gorgeous things. Just reminding myself :)

4. Sleep is a vague distant memory in this house. A flashback type memory, some kind of very pleasant sedantary trip.

5. Shaggy dog is gone and Princess Pup is back. Much to Esta's amusement.

6. I can hear a beautiful gentle singing voice in the background as I type. India is home from school today. *see above title*

7. Ideas for dinner have again escaped me today. I will have to scratch around in the kitchen at 4 o'clock trying to put something edible AND nutritious together again. Most tedious part of the day.

8. Last night I dreamt about people putting makeup on their teeth.

9. ok, so i've been sucked back into the vortex of facebook word games.

10. All the girls are missing the man around the house today.

Angelic?!? Do you think?

Once she was.
Now however, she seems to be possessed.
We've had some form of banshee visit us the last few days and it has decided it likes my daughter's body.
You know banshees? the screaming type?
They say in irish and scottish folklore a banshee wail is associated with the foretelling of a death. Well let me tell you, there is no foresight science in that. Another day of that sort of ear piercing squealing and i can guarantee my brain will expire.
Now, who would love this little cherub to come for a visit?

That question is rhetorical by the way.
I'm just searching for flights now, pray that your city is not on sale.

Time Time Time, what has become of it?

I know it isn't just me. This year seems to be hell full of chaos, and rushing, and struggle and action and events and weariness. Some good, some bad, but all crashing one after another into each other. More so than usual. It's like someone sped the world up, spinning faster and faster on it's axis, and forgot to tell us. Is it astrological? Is it a sign of the times? Or is the world really spinning faster, some kind of insidious unexpected effect of global warming?

Is there anyone out there who doesn't feel like they are running around in their life like a chook with it's head cut off? Who out there has time to stop and smell the roses? Head up for longer than a quick breath and back to it? Waving not drowning? Drowning not waving?

You, whoever you are, what is your secret to slowing the pace of your life.
Please share.

Rain Bliss

Rain bliss

We are currently enjoying the soothing sounds of rain on the roof,
rain on the windows and rain trickling in to fill the water tanks.
It's wonderful!
